PhD candidate in Islamicate archaeology
ED 124, Sorbonne Université
Vincent Thérouin is PhD candidate in Islamicate archaeology at Sorbonne University. He is currently preparing a thesis on the urban development in Ottoman Bosnia under the supervision of Eloïse Brac de la Perrière. His work consists of a material approach to Ottoman urban history, renewing the reflections about the singular phenomenon of city foundation in the Ottoman context. Investigating an Ottoman border area on the long term led Vincent Thérouin to study several languages and scripts, including Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian, Ottoman Turkish and Arabic. He also regularly carries field missions throughout the Balkan region.
Within the project, Vincent Thérouin contributes to the investigation of the Anatolia and Balkans region, more specifically concerning epigraphy. He has also contributed to the setting of the ontology as well as to the preliminary Omeka database.
