Thierry Grégor, a stonemason and lecturer, after many years of research specializing in the study of stone as a material—ranging from extraction to engraving—earned a Doctorate in History and Archaeology at the University of Poitiers (Centre d’Études Supérieures de Civilisation Médiévale, CESCM – UMR 7302). His thesis, entitled Étude technique des inscriptions médiévales en Poitou-Charentes (Technical Study of Medieval Inscriptions in Poitou-Charentes), examined the different engraving techniques used across various historical periods. His research has taken him to Saudi Arabia, Cyprus, Spain, Greece, Israel, Italy, and Palestine, where he has visited various sites and work locations, and participated in the Graph-East ERC.
