Julie Marquer is Lecturer in Language, Literature and Civilization of Medieval Spain at the Université Lumière Lyon 2. Her research focuses on the use of Islamic artistic heritage by Christians in the Iberian Peninsula, and, more specifically, on Arabic epigraphy in Castile. For several years, she has been working to highlight the specific features of ornamental Arabic inscriptions in Christian kingdoms between the 11th and 15th centuries. She is carrying out a global study of these inscriptions on the scale of the peninsula to distinguish the formal and symbolic selections and reinterpretations that accompany the re-use of this heritage from Al-Andalus. This epigraphic corpus will be based on a digital edition. She has already published several articles on specific architectural inscriptions, highlighting their re-signification and originality in a context other than that of Islam.

For the CallFront Project, she analyzes the specific features of Arabic epigraphy in the kingdom of Castile, its links with the traditions of al-Andalus, between continuity and innovation, and she looks at the meaning of these inscriptions and their place in visual communication.
